Bangaru Laxman, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which leads
the federal coalition is seen on a video grab from a hidden camera. On
Tuesday, March 13, 2001 Indian internet portal tehelka.com claimed to have
bribed top politicians, army officers and defense ministry bureaucrats in a
fake weapons deal with its reporters posing as arms dealers. Laxman on
Tuesday resigned as president of BJP following what he branded “malicious”
allegations that he was among a string of officials who took bribes.
